2001 Senior Profiles:

Kyle
has been a captain on the squad for the last two years. He has been actively wrestling since
seventh grade. This season Kyle won the
Southwestern Tournament, and also placed fourth at the LL League Tournament. This fall, Kyle was captain of the Cross
Country team where he was the teams top runner. He was also one of the top runners in the league, and a league
all star. In the spring you will see
Kyle on the track where he has annually been one of the top runners in the
league. Kyle runs the 800 and finished
4th in the district last year. Kyle’s
academic plans are to major in aerospace engineering. He has been accepted at Penn State’s main campus. Kyle is also a very active member of his
church. We are very fortunate to have
Kyle’s services on the mat and can be proud of all his past and future
accomplishments. Good luck, Kyle!

Nate
is a three-year varsity starter for the BlackKnights. Some of Nates accomplishments this season are a Championship at
the Southwestern Tournament, and a third place at the LL League Tournament. Nate also excels academically at Hempfield. He was one of the league’s academic
all-stars last year and is the current vice president of the National Honor
Society. Nate is on the leadership
team for Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He is also in the Service Leadership Group at Hempfield. After
graduation, Nate plans to study engineering.
Good luck to Nate in the future!

Matt has been wrestling since junior high. Matt was a valuable starter on last year’s varsity squad. Until recently, an unfortunate preseason injury has kept Matt out of the starting lineup. Look for Matt to get back into the lineup for the final matches of the season and postseason. Matt also competed on the Hempfield Cross Country team this year. In the spring, you can look for Matt where he was for the last three years, on the track at the poll vault. Matt is an excellent academic student and as such, a member of the National Honor Society. Matt is also an active member of his church youth group. Matt has received his nomination to the Military Academy at West Point and intends to start there next fall. We wish the best for Matt in his future career and look forward to his continued success.

Chris
has been wrestling for three years on the Varsity team. Chris was in a few varsity matches last year
but hopes to contribute more to this year’s squad. Chris was also on the Hempfield football team. When he is not wrestling, you can see Chris
working at the Centerville McDonalds.
After high school Chris plans to attend college. Good luck to Chris in the future!

Troy has been wrestling since the fifth grade. The bouts his first year usually ended in defeat. It was in the last tournament that year that Troy finally broke through with a trophy, finishing third. He never looked back, working very hard and improving every year he wrestled. He ended his senior year with a record of 33-2 and had five tournament championships. Troy’s career record is 115-21. Last year, Troy won the silver medal in the PIAA state championships. Until wrestling became a career for Troy he was active in Boy Scouts, band, soccer, and track. He still plays saxophone in the church orchestra and is active in his church youth fellowship. He also competed on the Hempfield Cross Country team this year. Troy plans to continue his wrestling career in college next year and is considering schools such as Drexel University, Edinboro, Pitt, and Lycoming. We wish the best for Troy in his future career and look forward to his continued success in wrestling.

This is Tom’s second year as a solid
starter on the varsity line-up, and has placed 8th at the Governor
Mifflin Holiday Tournament. Tom was also a member of this year’s cross-country
team so when it comes to conditioning, Tom is one of the best. When Tom is not in sports you can find him
involved in other outdoor activities.
In addition, Tom is president of his church youth group and is the
Master Counselor in Demolay. After
graduation Tom has already been accepted in the United States Marines for which
he leaves in August. We wish the best
for Tom in his future endeavors and we are confident he will make us proud!

Josh
has been wrestling since the third grade and is currently one of the best
wrestlers in the state. He had a stellar record of 35-3 and five tournament
championships this season. Josh is
the all-time leader in wins at Hempfield with the current record of 120. Additionally, Josh finished sixth in the
1999 PIAA AAA State tournament and fifth this past year. Josh plans to continue his wrestling career
in college next year and is currently considering Bloomsberg University. We wish the best for Josh in his future
career and look forward to his continued success in wrestling.

Matt
not only excels in wrestling, he also was an all star on Hempfield’s football
team where he was a multi year starter at offensive guard. In track, last year he was one of the best
throwers in the LL league. Not only is
Matt a fine athlete, he is a fine student as well. Academically at the top of his class, Matt hopes to attend John
Hopkins University where he plans to study medicine and play football. Congratulations Matt and we wish you a fine
season.

Buck has been
wrestling since the fifth grade. Buck
works very hard at wrestling and is a very dedicated and knowledgeable
grappler. In the wrestling room, Buck helps coach the new wrestlers
demonstrating the moves to them. He
knows the sacrifices a Hempfield Wrestler must endure. On many teams in the
county, Buck would be a regular starter.
However, with the strength of the Hempfield program (being the top team
in the L-L league the last two years and second the year before that), Buck has
seen only limited varsity action. Buck
has been very respectable in the JV circuit with a number of wins under his
belt. Buck is not a quitter and has
been a part of a successful program. In
his spare time, you can find Buck working at Savemart. In the spring, Buck plans to be mixing it up
on the rugby field. In the fall, with
several colleges in mind, Buck plans on studying environmental science. We wish the best for Buck in his future
career and look forward to his continued success.
